Interfaith Coexistence

Interfaith Coexistence

Across Canada and around the world, public discourse is being overtaken by extremes.

Azerbaijanis come from a society where Muslims, Jews, Christians and people of many backgrounds have coexisted for centuries. We celebrate each other’s holidays without politics or spectacle: Novruz, Hanukkah, Orthodox Christmas, Ramadan. Coexistence isn’t a social project. It is everyday life. It has always been this way. That legacy follows us here to Canada.

Our work reflects that principle. We’ve built genuine alliances with many faith-based organizations across Canada. The 2022 Jewish Heritage of Azerbaijan Gala at the Schwartz Reisman Centre honored centuries of Jewish life thriving in a Muslim-majority nation.

In 2024, our sold-out Turkic Heritage Gala at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts brought together diplomats, officials and communities across the GTA. The Seven Beauties Ensemble, seven musicians from seven Turkic nations, stood as a living symbol of shared heritage. It wasn’t entertainment. It was proof of what becomes possible when people choose connection over division.

We have partnered with our friends in the Turkish, Ahmadiyya Muslim, Jewish, Ukrainian, Uyghur and many other communities to strengthen our voice around our shared values. Canada is stronger when communities with a lived model of pluralism step forward. NAC exists to amplify that voice, not to protest others, but to demonstrate what works, and to help build a country where celebrating one another is normal, not political.
