Azerbaijan Debuts at Calgary Stampede Parade

Showcasing Rich Cultural Heritage at Canada’s Iconic Festival

Azerbaijan Debuts at Calgary Stampede Parade

Every year, Canadians come together at the Calgary Stampede for its highly anticipated rodeo, exhibition, and festival. From July 5-14, attendees can enjoy a variety of shows, including the Freestyle Motocross show by Monster Energy and the Stampede’s famous chuckwagon races.

For the first time, this year, Azerbaijan was represented at the renowned Calgary Stampede Parade, thanks to the efforts of the Alberta Azerbaijani Cultural Society (ALACS). The Stampede Parade has been held annually since 1992, and is watched by over 300,000 people live and by 5 million online. The ALACS team presented Azerbaijan with vibrant energy. They wore Azerbaijan’s national attire, danced to national music, as they made their way through the parade, displaying the richness of Azerbaijani culture.

The highlight was a float featuring a replica of the Maiden Tower - a 12th century legendary monument in Baku’s Old City - and an Azerbaijani carpet, pulled by a vehicle decorated with the Azerbaijani flag and a Karabakh horse.

It is wonderful to see Azerbaijan adding to Canada’s diversity and being celebrated at the Stampede. This is a significant achievement by our community to showcase our culture, and we are cheering on ALACS for their impeccable and hard work.
